Compute weights, a frontier or a regime in the Workbench
The Workbench, in the sidebar, answers four questions without building a strategy: Today's weights, Efficient frontier, Correlations and Regime.
Steps
- Open the Workbench from the sidebar and choose a tool at the top. A tool your plan does not include shows the plan mark; pressing it opens the plan dialog and computes nothing.
- Pick the instruments on the left, with the same search and lists as a strategy's Asset selection. Every tool but Regime reads them, and they stay when you change tool.
- For Today's weights, choose the method in the Method card: it opens the same method list as a strategy's Allocation card, with the same settings and the same plan marks. Date is Latest unless you pick a day.
- Read the answer on the right: the weights each instrument gets, headed with the day they are for.
- Compare a second method with Compare with another method: the Compared method card appears with its own settings, and the table gains a column. The × removes it.
- For Efficient frontier or Correlations, set the window and the estimator in the middle card. Regime reads the rule you build under When, in the same sheet a strategy's Risk card uses; a strategy-based rule also asks which Combined to watch.
- Keep the result with Save as strategy: it creates a new strategy with the main method, the frontier portfolio you chose, or the rule.
Done. The answer is the engine's own, for the day it names; nothing is saved until you press Save as strategy.
Why are the weights for an earlier day than the one I asked?
The weights are computed on the last day every instrument you picked has a price. When one stops earlier, the heading names the earlier day and then the day you asked — "Weights as of Oct 9, 2026, not Oct 13, 2026" — and names the instrument that has no prices after its last day. Remove that instrument, or pick an earlier Date, to get weights for the day you want.
Does the Workbench show the covariance matrix?
No — Correlations shows the correlation matrix only, as the lower triangle, each cell tinted by how strongly the two instruments move together. The covariance matrix is not shown in the app yet.
Does using the Workbench spend my AI requests?
No. The Workbench runs the same calculations the AI apps connected to your account run, but a calculation you run in the app spends none of your plan's AI requests and adds nothing to your AI results. The Workbench has a limit of its own: 30 calculations a minute and 300 an hour; past it, the answer says how many seconds to wait.
